Ceramic coating is a protective, polymer based coating applied to the paintwork of a vehicle that provides a range of benefits. It bonds to your clear coat in order to help protect against the elements (rain, sun, snow etc.), reduces maintenance time, and adds a lustrous finish that helps maintain a showroom-level shine for longer.

Most ceramic coating manufacturers—including GYEON and C6—recommend at least a basic polish before applying the coating. This improves surface clarity, removes light imperfections, and ensures the coating bonds properly for maximum durability.

At Westchester Auto Detail, we typically recommend paint correction—especially for our longer-lasting coatings, where proper bonding is critical to long-term performance and warranty protection.

That said, paint correction is not required for all vehicles. If your paint is in great shape or you're focused solely on protection (not perfection), we offer ceramic coating packages without correction. This option is ideal for newer vehicles, lease returns, or clients on a tighter budget.

Yes, you can and should. Whether the vehicle is new from the dealership or to you being recently in your posession, it is better to ceramic coat your vehicle sooner than later. Ceramic coating provides great long term protection, preventing damage and loss of value of your vehicle, also enhancing gloss and shine. This coating makes washing and maintenance very easy because of the hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating. Applying a ceramic coating will prevent paint failure and degradation from the day of your first application.

Harsh chemicals, improper washing, and neglect can degrade the coating over time. Automated car washes with brushes are especially harmful. We educate all clients on proper care and offer maintenance services for longevity.

It helps resist minor swirls and micro-scratches thanks to added hardness, but it’s not bulletproof. The coating reduces risk during washing and adds a sacrificial layer—but proper wash technique still matters.

Waxing isn’t necessary—and may actually reduce performance. Ceramic coatings offer far superior protection and gloss. Instead, we recommend ceramic-safe toppers during maintenance appointments to refresh the coating.
