A methodical approach to removing odors inside cars
Professional Odor Removal for Vehicles
Odors inside of a vehicle rarely exist without a cause. They are the result of organic contamination, moisture or residual material embedded in interior components.
At Westchester Auto Detail, odor removal is treated as a diagnostic process, going deeper than a cosmetic treatment. Our goal isn't to mask smells, but effectively minimize them at the source.
Why Odors Persist Even With 'Basic Cleaning'
Common odor treatments only focus on surface cleaning or the use of air freshener. While these methods may offer short-term relief, they still fail when odor causing material remains trapped.
That's why vehicles smell clean at first, only for odors to return days or weeks later. Effective odor removal requires addressing contamination and the interior environment where the smell developed.
Odors We Commonly Address
Odor removal may be appropriate for vehicles affected by:
- Smoke or tobacco residue
- Pet odors or organic contamination
- Food spills and biological residue
- Moisture-related or musty odors
- Odors introduced through HVAC use
- Each situation is evaluated individually. Not every odor requires the same level of intervention.
In some cases, additional treatments may be required to completely remove odors. Additional charges may apply for services that require additional time and labor, such as smoke odor removal. In rare circumstances, complete odor removal may not be possible.

OUR PROCESS
When we're given a car with unpleasant smells, we remove smells at the source. After a thorough inspection of the vehicle, we create an appropriate course of action to remove the smell. This process begins with a vacuum of the interior cabin to remove dust and debris from the carpets, seats and trunk. Following this, we shampoo upholstered surfaces and apply an enzyme treatment to the affected areas. This process breaks down organic matter and odor causing microbes. Our high temperature steam uses heat to break down odors. We then use an ozone treatment in order to remove remaining odors in the cabin.
